Woman Buried By Sand: 'I Saw The Truck Coming At Me'

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- One of the victims in a scary crash in Boulder where a semi hauling sand tipped and buried cars is talking about the experience.

The semi tipped last Friday on Baseline Road and Foothills Parkway after the driver lost control.

"Out of the corner of my left eye I saw the truck coming at me," said victim Cheryl Fellows.

Fellows was driving one of the cars that was buried by sand, nearly burying her alive.

"I sort of gripped the steering wheel, said 'Brace, hold on, this is going to hurt,'" said Fellows.

She felt two impacts, the actual crash then the heavy load of sand falling on top of her and other cars.

"It was covered, the back end was covered, the wheel was snapped off," said Fellows.

Good Samaritans picked up shovels, buckets, anything they could get their hands on to help dig her out of her car and dig out others soon after the crash. Everyone was rescued alive with minor injuries.

Fellows believes something should be done at the intersection to prevent something like this from happening again.

"It's not a great intersection," said Fellows. "It is a challenging intersection on a good day."

The crash is still being investigated. No citations have been issued.
