DENVER (CBS4) – Rory McIlroy said there is still the possibility he will playing in the BMW Championship at the Cherry Hills Country Club in two weeks. But one this is for sure, he’ll be in Denver to watch the Broncos host the Indianapolis Colts.
McIlroy had previously mentioned that he might skip the tournament in Cherry Hills. Since he had a disappointing weekend on the course, Hunter Mahan overtook McIlroy’s No. 1 spot on the FedEx Cup points. McIlroy will want to be No. 1 going into the Tour Championship.
But McIlroy said he really wants to see some football.
“I was thinking about [skipping] it, but you know what? I feel fine. I feel fresh. I have no problem playing a lot of golf. I’ll see where I stand next week. but I’m 90 percent going to be in Denver for sure,” McIlroy said. “One of the reasons why I want to go to Denver, as well, is the Broncos play the Colts on Sunday night. So I want to go to that, as well, first game of the season.”
McIlroy hasn’t played Cherry Hills but said he has heard a lot of good things about the course and is looking forward to getting a lot of distance on his shots in the high altitude of Colorado.
