Ex-Mexican Officer Wanted In Killing Arrested

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) - Immigration authorities in suburban Denver say they have arrested a former Mexican police officer accused of killing a man nearly 15 years ago.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials on Friday announced the arrest of 41-year-old Jesus Gabriel Ibarra-Espinoza, who was wanted by Mexican authorities.

ICE says Ibarra-Espinoza was moonlighting as a security guard at a party in Mocorito, Mexico on Jan. 17, 2000 when he used his police rifle to fatally shoot a man. Authorities say he fled and abandoned his weapon and police equipment.

ICE found him illegally in the United States in February 2000 and returned him to Mexico, but he told authorities he re-entered again in May 2000 from Calexico, California.

ICE says Ibarra-Espinoza was most recently living with his family in Denver.
