'Last Call Lot' Aimed At Preventing DUIs

DENVER (CBS4) - The state of Colorado is hoping to dissuade drunk driving by providing a free parking lot and free rides to those unable to get home safely.

Over the next three Fridays, the Colorado Department of Transportation will rent out what it's calling the "Last Call Lot" at 21st and Larimer streets. Drivers can park in one of 30 free spots from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. Lyft, a rideshare company, will offer free rides home. There's a morning-after bonus, too: coupons to area breakfast spots.

CDOT said security will guard the cars overnight.

The program is part of a larger campaign to prevent drunk driving in August. Law enforcement made more than 1,300 DUI arrests last year over the Labor Day weekend.
