Powerball Win Is Largest Ever Jackpot In Colorado

RIFLE, Colo. (CBS4) - Three, 12, 31, 34, 51, and the Powerball number 24 add up to the largest jackpot ever won in the state of Colorado -- $90 million. The ticket was sold in Rifle, which is west of Glenwood Springs, but nobody's come forward so far.

Rumors are flying about who the big winner is and there's been a lot of buzz around the store that sold the ticket.

"Definitely increased excitement around here and it's a lot of fun," a Rifle resident said.

"We've got a $90 million Powerball jackpot ticket holder somewhere around here that hasn't shown themselves yet," Kelly Tabor with the Colorado Lottery said.

The Kum & Go is one of the last spots to stop as heading north out of Rifle on Highway 13. The store got $50,000 of commission just for selling the jackpot ticket.

"I don't know, that's going to the company and I'm not sure what happens after that," Kum And Go District Manager Clint Thompson said.

But everyone wants to know who has the ticket.

"We've had a lot of people through town, having a fair here, so have no clue who it is," Thompson said.

"There's a lot to think about when you win $90 million, so we don't blame them for taking their time, so we can be patient," Tabor said.

Experts say consulting a lawyer first is a winner's best bet. It's something the last major winner did.

"Previously we've had one other jackpot, I don't want to say only, but it was only $20 million back in 2007. So this has been a long time coming and I think we were due," Tabor said.

The winner has six months to come forward and claim the prize. If nobody claims it, it will go toward the lottery's proceed partners in public schools and outdoor recreation.

"Our proceeds are what we're really proud of, I mean $2.7 billion with a 'B,' " Tabor said. "You can't really go anywhere in Colorado without seeing the effects of the lottery."

It turned out to be a pretty good day for Colorado all around after Saturday's Powerball. There was also $1 million ticket was sold in Broomfield and a $20,000 winner in Eagle.
