DENVER (CBS4) – A woman accused of child abuse that resulted in the death of her 2-month-old daughter has been formally charged.

According to Lynn Kimbrough with the district attorney’s office, Kelsy Newell-Skinner, 21, has been charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.

The child, Natalee Hurst-Skinner, was taken to Children’s Hospital on July 27 and had signs of abuse.

“Once at the hospital, the baby was determined to have multiple skull fractures, broken ribs, severe bruising, bite marks on her thigh and brain damage,” Kimbrough said in a statement. “The victim died several days later.”

Investigators concluded that the child was in the care of Kelsy Newell-Skinner when she suffered the injuries.

Skinner remains in custody on a $50,000 bond.
