Moms Group Lobbies In Denver To Change Gun Policies

DENVER (CBS4) - A group that helped pass gun control legislation in Colorado is attempting to influence the 2014 election.

Moms Demand Action held a conference in Denver on Friday that's aimed at making gun control a top issue for women voters.

"We are training women to go toe to toe with the gun lobby in their states, to educate women and mothers and, frankly, all Americans about where their candidates stand on these issues. We've pledged to get at least one million Americans to vote with what he call "gun sense," which means that you believe you can do more to protect your family from gun violence. We're not anti-gun. We support the Second Amendment, but we believe that with rights come responsibilities," Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action, told CBS4.

The group was founded after the Newton, Conn., shooting, and has more than two million supporters and $50 million in financial backing from former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

It is responsible for convincing national chains like Target, Starbucks, Chipotle and Chili's to change their policies regarding guns in their establishments.
