Sakic Praises New Av Iginla's Shot, Leadership

STATELINE, Nev. (CBS4) - The executive vice president of hockey operations for the Colorado Avalanche says the addition of veteran Jarome Iginla to the roster will help out in a lot of ways.

Former NHL MVP and two-time Stanley Cup winner Joe Sakic is competing in the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship at Lake Tahoe this weekend. He told CBS4 on Friday in a satellite interview he believes Iginla will give a boost to whichever line he plays for with the Avs.

"We've got two good lines that we feel like he'll complement either one -- whichever one (Head Coach Patrick Roy) wants to put him with," Sakic said of Iginla, who is 37. "And really with that power play and in front of the net he's still got a great shot. And that leadership -- you can't have enough leadership in the dressing room and he's definitely going to bring that."

"Our core guys are young and we try to surround them with great veteran leadership that can help them get to the next level," Sakic said.

Last year Sakic made a hole-in-one in the tournament.

Fellow hockey players T.J. Oshie, Martin Brodeur and Jeremy Roenick are also competing in the American Century Championship.
