DENVER (CBS4) – The Denver Police Department has added several Segway patrols to the downtown 16th Street Mall.
The department says it’s an efficient way to cover the area and makes it easier for citizens to talk with officers.
“It gives them a way to move around quickly and to be seen by the public and people in the area. It’s a way for us to get officers out of police cars, get them out of that metal cocoon,” Cmdr. Tony Lopez said.
The Segways have a top speed of 12 mph and are electric not gas-powered.
