DENVER (CBS4) – The Colorado Rockies currently have two players on the All-Star team in Troy Tulowitzki and Charlie Blackmon, and they could have a third added.
First-baseman Justin Morneau is on the ballot for the final vote. The player who gets the most votes from the fans by 2 p.m. Thursday goes to the game.
Morneau certainly deserves it. He’s batting .316. If he were to make it he would be returning to Minnesota, where he started his career.
“Guys that are there are deserving, and the guys in the final vote are deserving. So it’s hard, those guys who are left off every year, but hopefully we can get some people rallying behind us and get that vote in there,” Morneau said. “You know be a lot of fun to go back there and to say I’d appreciate it would be an understatement.”
“When we initially found out that Troy and I had made it, I felt like I’m really not going to be able to enjoy it until Morneau makes a team; because you look at what he has done this year and the production he’s had and the bounce-back year that he’s had; not to mention what he brings as far as leadership to the clubhouse,” Blackmon said. “He’s really a player that I believe deserves to be there.”
The All-Star Game is next Tuesday, July 15 at Target Field in Minneapolis at 5:30 p.m.
