Avs Draft Life-Long Colorado Fan Conner Bleackly

DENVER (CBS4) - The NHL draft was completed Saturday and there are now seven new additions to the Avalanche franchise.

The Avs picked up two defensemen, a goalie, a center and three forwards, one of which was the team's top pick, Conner Bleackly, who last played for the Red Deer in the WHL. It was an early birthday present for Bleackly, who turns 19 next Wednesday.

Bleackly is a life-long Colorado Avalanche fan and his favorite player growing up was Joe Sakic, so he feels like he won the lottery.

"It's really hard to explain, giving my mom a hug, I think she was even crying," Bleackly said. "It's really special when Joe Sakic calls your name and you go up there and throw on the Avalanche sweater."

Colorado didn't have a second round pick but in the third round they took Kyle Wood, and then a pair of forwards in the fourth round.

In the fifth round they grabbed Anton Linholm, a defensemen from Sweden. In the sixth got a goalie.
