Rapids Coach Pablo Mastroeni Thinks U.S. Missed Chance To Make Big Statement

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - The Colorado Rapids host the Atlanta Silverbacks Tuesday evening, and like many Americans, the Rapids have been keeping an eye on the World Cup and how the U.S. is fairing.

Rapids head coach Pablo Mastroeni thinks the U.S. missed a chance to make a statement to the international community when they tied Portugal on Sunday.

"I think (Sunday) was a great example of putting the ball on the floor and playing some good football. I think that's the perception the international community (has) – we're not there yet," Mastroeni said. "I think (Sunday) was a great step in that direction and had we closed that game off, it would have been a huge step."

Thursday is the make or break game for U.S. in the World Cup. A win or tie against Germany and the Americans move on. A loss and they will need help to advance.
