Glen Haven Family Returns Home 9 Months After Floods

GLEN HAVEN, Colo. (CBS4) - Nine months after fleeing last fall's historic floods, a Glen Haven family in this small mountain hamlet is returning home.

Marsha Hobert, her husband and their eight Siamese cats evacuated Glen Haven by boat when North Creek's rising flood waters churned through this 180-resident town that sits 15 minutes northeast of Estes Park in Larimer County.

"It's a strange feeling," Marsha Hobert, who's lived in Glen Haven for more than three decades, told CBS4. "It's like we never left, but you keep visualizing the nightmare of everything happening."

By the time a reverse 911 warning call reached the family last September, they were already trapped. It took four days for crews to arrive and evacuate the family from the Thompson Canyon.

The flood washed out 16 of Glen Haven's bridges and destroyed nearly 20 buildings. Crews repaired some of its infrastructure just a few weeks ago.

Now that she's back, Hobert says she plans to reconnect with neighbors.

"We're lucky," she said. "We're lucky."
