Elitch Gardens Riders Stuck On The Sidewinder

DENVER (CBS4)- Some riders on the thrill ride "The Sidewinder" got some unintended extra time on the ride at Elitch Gardens when a mechanical issue forced ride operators to stop the ride.

The ride became stuck during one of the rides.

Riders were stuck on the ride for about 20 minutes while operators investigated what happened.

Riders were let off and given free tickets for another visit to Elitch's on another day as well as meal coupons to be used in the park.

No one was injured but riders tweeted that it was very hot sitting in the sun and waiting.

Elitch's took The Sidewinder out of service after the disruption to put the ride through safety tests. The ride was reopened to riders after 20 minutes of testing.

The Sidewinder takes rides through one loop. Instead of starting from the ground, riders must ascend stairs 50 feet up to the loading station.

The trains are launched down a hill, into the loop, then ascends a slope opposite of the station with a braking section. The train then repeats the layout backwards.
