Very First Bolder Boulder Winner Now Trains Others

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) – On Monday around 50,000 runners will gather in Boulder to run in the 36th annual Bolder Boulder.

Over one million people have run the race since its inception.

Ric Rojas won the very first race back in 1979. These days he's training people who want to run in the Bolder Boulder but he hasn't forgotten what it felt like to win all those years ago.

"Everybody was an amateur at the time in terms of actually running the race. My pickup truck was the pace truck and one of my club members from the Colorado Track Club was driving the truck. Well he forgot to start it so when they shot the gun he had to go jump in the truck, start the truck., By that time everybody had passed him," said Rojas.
