Judge Orders Release Of Autopsy Report
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (AP/CBS4) — A judge has ordered Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg to release the autopsy report for a 3-year-old boy who police believe died after being neglected.
The coroner's office sought to keep the boy's autopsy report from the public for at least two to three more weeks because the Routt County District Attorney's Office argued its release could interfere with a suspect's rights to a fair trial.
Megan McKeon is suspected of leaving her son home alone for an extended period of time, leading to his death.
According to Steamboat Today, the district attorney's office and investigators with the Steamboat Springs Police Department also contended release of the documents could compromise the testimony of witnesses.
In his ruling Wednesday afternoon, District Chief Judge Michael O'Hara said Ryg did not provide any evidence that the release of the autopsy report would cause substantial injury to the public interest.
