DENVER (CBS4) – Investigators say an accident caused a fire that sent flames through the roof of the La Quinta Inn located near Interstate 25 and Colorado Boulevard.

The fire started in the laundry chute at the motel. It broke out just before 2:30 a.m. on Monday.

Six units are a loss but nobody was hurt.

A woman in town for her daughter’s graduation watched as part of her roof collapsed.

“We watched that happen, we watched the ceiling drop. Before that we saw smoke fill,” hotel guest Ruth Mendoza said. “We were glad to be out of the room. The firefighters came quickly and did very good job.”

One of the guests noticed the fire and called the fire department.
