Search Is On For Missing Steer In Arvada

ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4) – A family is desperately searching for a missing 700 pound steer in Arvada.

The animal is a family pet used in livestock competitions and the owners haven't seen it since the weekend.

Ann Brock and her daughters have been searching in ditches, fields and roadsides looking for Simba, who they say just seems to have vanished after jumping over a fence.

Brock says they found tracks a handful of times but they lead nowhere.

"We spoke with a man whose cow recently got out and we were following those tracks and those turned out to be his," said Brock.

She says neighbors have seen Simba but they've missed the steer by as little as an hour.

It's especially hard on teenager Cheyenne Brock, as raising the steer is her project for upcoming stock shows.

"I have a year with him and I didn't want to think about the ending where I would have to say goodbye to him but it's just kind of hard," said Cheyenne.

She's so intent on finding him that she has put school and social life on hold and has gotten sick looking though snowstorms and rain.

She believes good news will come soon.

"It doesn't matter how hard it knocks me. I still have hope that something is going to happen," said Cheyenne.

The Brocks say aimal control hasn't received any reports of a steer roaming on its own.

They worry that without the food it needs, it may not survive.
