Ethiopian Community Protests At The Capitol
DENVER (CBS4) – Members of Colorado’s Ethiopian community rallied at the capitol on Friday.
They were protesting the deaths of student demonstrators gunned down last week by Ethiopian security forces.
The students are also protesting plans to redevelop the country’s capitol saying the proposal will displace farmers and erase landmarks.
“We are here to inform the American public and government that Ethiopia is killing its own students who are the hope for tomorrow,” said protestor Nure Kebirtilmo.
There are conflicting reports about how many students died.
The government says there were 11 deaths but witnesses say there were nearly 50.
