DENVER (CBS4) - Police are scouring over missing person reports right now after a woman turned up dead on Lookout Mountain in Jefferson County.

The woman's body was found by a hiker Thursday at 9:40 a.m. near Windy Saddle Park and the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave.

Deputies kept traffic far away from the scene. A large portion of Lookout Mountain Road on the east side from Golden was closed for most of the day.

The victim has not been identified and right now the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department is asking all local law enforcement agencies to come to them with any missing person reports involving a white female with dark hair between the age of 25 and 40.

A spokesperson for the sheriff's office couldn't say how long the body had been there, only that death is very suspicious. They are asking for the public's help in piecing together the timeline.

"Anyone who was up in this Windy Saddle Trailhead area along the Lariat Loop, Lookout Mountain, to contact us," Jacki Kelley with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department said. "You may not realize that you saw something that could be important to the investigation. Anyone who was up here within the last 24 hours, we'd like to hear from them."

Deputies are asking that people avoid the area if at all possible. They say Lookout Mountain Road will likely remain closed through the evening.
