1 Injured In Officer-Involved Shooting In Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - One person was injured on Tuesday in an officer-involved shooting outside a Walmart in Lakewood.

The shots rang out at about 4 a.m. in the store parking lot, located at Colfax Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard.

Police said they found a woman and man arguing in a car after she called police.

Police told CBS4 the man got out of the car and they could see a gun in his waistband. They say when officers approached he aimed the gun toward them.

The two officers then shot at him and hit him.

"He went down but was still moving and still had the gun in his hands," said Lakewood police spokesman Steve Davis. "They gave him the commands several times to drop that weapon but he would not, so one of the officers went back and got a less than lethal bean bag round and started firing at him and actually, I'm told, shot the weapon out of his hand with the bean bag rounds."

Police said later the weapon the man had was actually an airsoft or pellet gun, and it looked realistic.

The man was taken to a hospital with injuries that were described as being non-life threatening.
