Colorado Insurance Regulators Extend Deadlines

DENVER (AP) — Colorado will give health insurers another year to offer plans that don't meet new federal requirements. Insurance regulators announced the change Friday but say they don't know how many insurers will take up the offer, or how many consumers will sign up to extend non-compliant plans.

The Colorado Division of Insurance also announced plans to shuffle Colorado's insurance rating zones. That's important because some mountain areas have premiums that are dramatically higher than in other areas. An announcement on the new zones is expected next week.

Regulators say the changes won't endanger the state's new health insurance exchange.
