Man Arrested After Police Pursuit Involving Stolen Police Car

DENVER (CBS4) - A man was taken into custody on Monday morning after a police pursuit.

A marked Adams County Sheriff's vehicle was stolen at 9:15 a.m. and eventually collided with Colorado State Patrol vehicles at West 70th Avenue and Pecos Street in Adams County.

The incident began with a disturbance call at 66th Avenue and Knox Court. The crash occurred 2 ½ miles away in a school zone and authorities are relieved nobody was seriously injured.

Authorities said that during the disturbance call a struggled ensued between the suspect and deputy. The suspect overpowered the deputy and fled in the deputy's cruiser, reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. The pursuit lasted less than 10 minutes.

The deputy involved in the struggle was taken to the hospital for injuries that aren't considered life-threatening. The state trooper involved in the crash was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.

"What changes here is that you have a law enforcement vehicle that has been stolen," Jeff Gordon with the Colorado State Patrol said. "So you have an active auto theft, which is a felony; but no you have a law enforcement vehicle that is actually the one that's been stolen. So that ups the ante quite a bit.

"What you're thinking about is, 'If I'm going to terminate the pursuit, where do I do it? How do I do it? How do I keep from injuring other people, saving lives and not damaging property.' "

A CBS4 crew captured images of a man, whose name hasn't been released, who appeared to be the suspect being led away in handcuffs. He had no shirt, shoes or socks on. It's not clear if he was injured.
