One person jumped into action quickly after hearing cries for help.

"We tried to open the door and once we got into the apartment, the smoke was so thick we couldn't see anything so we had to crawl on the floor," said neighbor Wisdom Wormernor. "The smoke was thick and black. We went inside for about 20 seconds and I couldn't see anything."

Two people have slight burn injuries. The Red Cross is helping with housing for those displaced residents.

Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen.
