Police: Officers Open Fire As Pit Bull Charges

CANON CITY, Colo. (AP) — Authorities say a Canon City officer was attacked by a pit bull during a domestic disturbance call, prompting two officers to open fire.

The attack occurred Saturday morning as police responded to a report of a man threatening himself with a gun.

A police news release says that the man at first refused to speak with the officers but later opened the front door and large pit bull attacked one of them, and both officers fired their weapons at it.

The officer who was attacked wasn't injured, but the dog was taken to a veterinarian where it died.

Police say that a 32-year-old man was forcibly taken into custody and faces possible charges that include domestic violence and prohibited use of a weapon.
