Vail Says Vonn Viral Video Has Given Pass Sales A Boost

VAIL, Colo. (CBS4) – Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn went undercover as an employee at Vail Ski Resort employee in a video that has now gone viral.

With nearly 200,000 views it's the most watched video ever put out by one of Colorado's most iconic ski resorts.

In the video, Lindsey Vonn and her (pretend) supervisor Johnathan Cowan worked at the counter in a Vail office selling lift tickets with the entire thing captured on hidden cameras.

"It was a lot of fun, three hours of hanging out with guests. Every guest was different and Lindsey was trying to play off the guest," Cowen told CBS4.

The video shows that very few people recognized the Olympian skier.

"Everyone was a buzz. Especially the guests after they learned that it was Lindsey. It was total fun throughout the entire day," said Cowan.

"There were a couple of folks that recognized her that we left off because the concept was really about surprising people," said Vail Director Of Marketing Davy Ratchford.

Vail said they didn't know how the video would turn out.

"We didn't give her any guidance on it. We just said we want you to come in and literally sell tickets to our guests and have fun with them," said Ratchford.

According to the ski resort, the video has pushed season pass sales for next year already.

They also said that there may be more videos like this in the future.

"We have some other ideas in the future of how she can interact with the guests," said Ratchford.

Lindsey didn't compete much this season after a knee injury. She's recovering and says she has her eyes set on the world championships in February which will be held at Vail and Beaver Creek.
