"We talk about daddy every day in our house," Tami said.

Her husband, James Davies, died November 9, 2012. He was accidentally shot by a fellow police officer. He left behind two small children and Tami wants to make sure they grow up knowing their father.

"Daddy would like this. Let's do this with daddy. Let's go take the recycling because we used to do that with daddy. We find a penny and we think of daddy," Tami said.

Now she's working to keep her husband's memory alive in the community by offering two scholarships to support people who have lost a loved one.

"I don't want anybody to feel that losing something is the end and there are not any opportunities left," Tami said.

The scholarships are $5,500 apiece and can be applied for a Tami's website. She is focusing the scholarships on people who have gone through the programs at Judi's House, a nonprofit offering 10-week group counseling sessions.

"Our mission is that no child should feel alone in grief," said Judi's House counselor Alex Jacobson.

It was started by former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese in 2002 in memory of his mother. The walls are covered in quilt panels with each representing a loved one lost too soon.

James Davies has a panel on the wall made by the hands of his young children and it even includes pennies.

"I want everyone to not forget what a great man he was," said Tami, who hopes the scholarships will be a new way to remember her husband.

"That does make me feel proud and empowered," Tami said.

The scholarships are funded through a memorial golf tournament that is coming up on June 22.
