Blue Ribbon Formed For Child Abuse Awareness Month

DENVER (CBS4) – April is child abuse awareness month and on Tuesday hundreds of employees from Children's Hospital Colorado and the Kempe Center gathered to form a giant blue ribbon.

They want to remember Colorado children who have died from abuse.

Health care providers say it's important to raise awareness about abuse.

"By educating our community about prevention strategies, we can empower others to advocate for the safety of our children. Fostering a community that is invested in preventing child abuse," said one health care provider.

Every year the Kempe Center cares for more than 1,000 children who are victims of abuse or neglect.

Child abuse is one of the leading causes of death for children both her in Colorado and nationally.
