Strong Winds Blow Over Houses In Golden

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - Strong winds on Monday were so strong they ripped the framework of two homes under construction right off their nails.

Golden residents say gusting winds are nothing new, and neither is seeing bits and pieces of homes being picked up by them.

"Definitely you see pieces of homes going quite often, roofs, siding," said a Golden resident.

However, seeing two homes collapse to the ground is a little unusual.

Gusts blowing at 85 mph are what likely caused the construction site to turn into a pile of wood.

Steve Stevens thinks the builders failed to use supports to withstand those common weather conditions.

"The cross bracing is one of the things you really have to worry about because we get 110 mph winds. You don't get them all the time, once is enough," said Stevens.

Either way, some aren't too confident in the construction.

"The first thing I thought is I don't think I'd want to buy from these guys," said a Golden resident.

Luckily no one was inside at the time and there were no injuries.

The company behind the construction declined to comment.
