Work On 6th Avenue Bridge Over I-25 Extended Into Next Week

DENVER (CBS4) - Crews doing construction on the Interstate 25 and 6th Avenue bridge in Denver have extended their project window into next week.

The bridge, which stretches over I-25 is being demolished. It's one of six bridges that are part of a $98 million project to improve traffic flow and safety on that notoriously dangerous stretch of road.

There will be more full closures of the southbound lanes of the interstate overnight (from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.). Those will last through Tuesday night and possibly more nights next week. Demolition work will not take place Saturday.

The northbound lanes are down to one lane during those closures.

Detours for drivers are Sheridan Bouldevard, Santa Fe or Colorado Boulevard. A local detour is also set up.

Officials with the Colorado Department of Transportation also recommend drivers who are traveling through the area take a regional detour of C470 or Interstate 225 or E-470.
