Parker Police Search For Officer Impersonator

PARKER, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Parker are searching for a man who is impersonating a police officer and even tried to pull over a driver on Thursday.

"It is concerning that is was six lanes of traffic in the middle of the day and there were hundreds of people out there," said Parker Police Dept. spokeswoman Dawn Cashman.

The man conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle about 10:30 a.m. on southbound Parker Road near Pine Lane in Parker. The victim in the incident called police less than six hours later.

The woman told police she was driving southbound on Parker Road when she saw an unknown and unmarked black pickup truck with flashing red and blue lights in her rear view mirror. She believed the truck to be law enforcement so she pulled to the shoulder of the road.

The black truck pulled behind her vehicle and a white male described as being "clean cut" approached the driver's side window and requested personal information from the woman. He checked her information then sent her on her way.

The suspect claimed she was speeding but he was not in uniform. Those are clues that the suspect was not who he claimed to be.

"He wasn't wearing a uniform, he didn't state what agency he was from, he didn't produce a badge," said Cashman.

He is described as being in his late 30s or early 40s, 5-foot-11 to 6-foot tall, 180 to 200 pounds with short, sandy brown hair and a goatee. The suspect was wearing blue jeans, a black jacket and a blue or gray-colored T-shirt.

Police are glad the woman was not harmed but are concerned about what could happen next time.

"With not knowing the intent of what this male was attempting to do or what he could do in the future, we don't want other crimes to be committed," said Cashman.

The woman also told police there was a large silver tool box in the bed of the truck and an extension ladder that extended from the truck bed over the cab. Those things made her suspicious.

"She thought maybe the ladder and tool box was unusual for a police officer to have that in the back of his pickup truck," said Cashman.

Anyone with any information about this suspect is asked to call Parker Police Department at 303-841-9800.
