Colorado Company Provided Satellite Image Lead
LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) — Two possible objects from the missing Malaysia Airlines plane spotted in the southern Indian Ocean came from commercial satellite imagery provided by DigitalGlobe.
The Longmont-based satellite imagery company in a statement Thursday confirmed it provided the images to Australian officials. Australia's officials said clouds and rain hampered the search Thursday but they would try again Friday.
DigitalGlobe has enlisted the public's help scanning satellite images covering the vast search area for the plane's wreckage and said it has also provided images to governments to assist in the search. The company said the Australians began combing through imagery in the area in recent days.
Company officials have said their satellites can spot objects on the ground or on the ocean surface as small as a briefcase from space.
