Officials Decide No Charges Will Be Filed In Fatal I-25 Pileup
DENVER (CBS4) - Investigators with Denver police on Friday announced that no charges will be filed in the deadly pileup on Interstate 25 that took place earlier this month.
Denver police's Traffic Enforcement spokesman Sgt. Mike Farr said the decision comes despite the fact people were likely driving too fast for the weather conditions.

Farr and other investigators spoke with the district attorney and they say charges wouldn't hold up in court, given that the road conditions were changing rapidly on the morning of March 1 when the crash happened and based on the number of cars involved.
A total of 104 vehicles got caught up in the three separate crashes that made up the pileup. Investigators focused their attention on the first of those crashes, which involved more than 40 cars and killed one woman.
Officers say when they arrived on the scene of that accident the roadways were just wet, but when they looked back at photos taken from the time of the crash -- about 20 mins earlier -- they could see the roads were covered in snow and ice.
Farr said the slick conditions triggered the chain reaction.
"Somebody started to lose control in front of the truck. The 18-wheeler -- in attempting to avoid that -- slides and starts to jacknife, does eventually come to a stop but has already collided with some vehicles and now vehicles attempting to avoid the truck were colliding with each other and colliding with the truck. So it was a chain reaction," he said.

Investigators have talked to the majority of drivers involved but are still working to identify a few who were involved that haven't come forward. They are asking those folks to contact them right away.
