Person Of Interest Arrested In Shooting Of Loveland Police Officer
LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) - Police arrested a man they are calling a person of interest in the shooting of a Loveland police officer.
At 4 p.m. on Tuesday Loveland Police said Cody Powell, 23, of Loveland. Powell called 911 from a Walmart in Fort Collins saying he wanted to turn himself in and that he was involved in Sunday night's crime.
Police have been looking for the people involved in the shooting of Officer Garret Osilka.
Authorities took Powell into custody to interview him and later placed him under arrest, charging him with attempted murder of a police officer and first degree assault of a peace officer.
The shooting happened Sunday night when Osilka tried to pull someone over during a traffic stop. He was shot but was able to return fire. The vehicle took off but police later found it abandoned about two miles away.
Though Osilka remains in the ICU he is recovering and is expected to survive.
