Woman Attacked In Her Apartment Building Stairwell

DENVER (CBS4) – Police in Denver would like the public's help identifying a suspect they say attacked a woman.

According to police, on Sunday at approximately 9:15 a.m. the woman was attacked in the stairwell of the Cedar Run Apartments located at 860 South Oneida Street.

"The victim immediately called Denver 911 to report the incident," police said in a statement.

The woman did have some minor injuries and resident, Chrissy Lampert said she came across what looked like the crime scene that same day.

"There was blood all over the stairs, a hand print smudged, across the wall," said Lampert.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 40s, 5-foot-10 to 5-foot-11 with a heavy build described as having a pot belly. He also had a mustache, thick eyebrows, acne scarring, and a crooked right index finger.

"He's out there and what he did was violent enough for us to be worried about it," said Denver Police Spokesman Sonny Jackson.

Police said the suspect is possibly a transient or homeless, something Lampert said is a usual sight.

"I've definitely seen some homeless people sleeping in the stairwells," said Lampert.

Denver police pointed out that this apartment complex is very close to Leetsdale, a street with several bus routes.

They want the public to keep in mind the suspect could be anywhere in the metro area.

Lampert said she'll be more cautious and more aware of who's around.

"I park my car in the garage, so it really worries me, coming home late at night by myself," said Lampert.
