Video Shows Near Miss After SUV Slams Into Parker DMV

PARKER, Colo. (CBS4) – The Department of Motor Vehicles in Parker has released video of an SUV with a 10-year-old girl at the wheel crashing into the office.

There are cameras inside Colorado's DMV offices and they captured the incident that occurred on Monday. The video shows that it was very lucky nobody was hurt.

It was all a matter of timing. The video shows a woman entering the DMV and walking right past the window and several people seated in three rows of chairs just as the glass breaks and the SUV comes crashing into the office.

The vehicle barely misses those seated before it comes to a stop.

The mother said she left her children in the vehicle with the keys to go inside the DMV. Her 10-year-old moved from the backseat to the driver's seat and reached back to get a cellphone, accidently bumping the gear shifter and knocking it into drive.

About a dozen people were inside the busy waiting room when the SUV came crashing into the office.

The child, not the mother, was cited for careless driving. People over the age of 10 can be cited in Colorado for careless driving.

The building was boarded up and reopened the following day.
