Cooter Expected To Join Lions

DENVER (AP) - A person with knowledge of the situation says Denver assistant Jim Bob Cooter is expected to leave the Broncos to coach quarterbacks for the Detroit Lions.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Saturday because the Lions have not announced Cooter's hiring.

Cooter was an offensive assistant for the staff that led Denver to an AFC championship last season. He'd previously worked for the Kansas City Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts.

Detroit has been putting together a new staff after coach Jim Schwartz was fired and replaced by Jim Caldwell. Offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said Friday he thought the team was in the process of hiring a quarterbacks coach, but wasn't sure of the exact timetable.
