Denver Woman Questioned After Newborn From Wisconsin Goes Missing

DENVER (CBS4) - A five day old baby from Wisconsin went missing and a woman from Denver has been questioned about the disappearance.

The mother of Kayden Powell called 911 after waking up early Thursday morning to find her newborn son gone from his bassinette in the town of Beloit, Wis.

Police say the family is cooperating and say they have no suspects. Officers in neighboring Iowa arrested Kristen Rose Smith, of Denver, on a warrant unrelated to the missing child case, but officials where she was arrested in the town of West Branch said they did want to ask her about it.

Investigators say Smith is the half-sister of the baby's mother, and that baby clothes were found in her car.

Authorities can't issue an Amber Alert because there are no suspects or vehicle descriptions, but they say it's crucial they find this child soon.

The Rock County Sheriff's office in Wisconsin has its entire detective bureau and investigation unit on the case.

Steve Kopp, Beloit's police chief, said they were engaged in a "frantic search to try to locate this baby."
