CU Report Finds Widespread Sexual Harassment In Philosophy Department

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - A report from the University of Colorado Boulder shows widespread sexual harassment in the school's philosophy department.

University officials say a large number of complaints filed within the department prompted a full review by the American Philosophical Association. Their report found a significant number of faculty and graduate students reported witnessing or actually being sexually harassed themselves.

CU spokesperson Bronson Hilliard says the university is making changes. Starting Thursday they are suspending the department's graduate program until 2015.

"We looked at the situation and thought, 'This is not a healthy environment for our graduate students to be in right now.' There is going to be substantial reorganizations administratively and there needs to be sort of a top down overhaul of the department as far as their process and procedures," Hilliard said.

Hilliard says undergraduate students should be minimally affected by the changes.
