Kitchen Fire Forces Evacuation Of Tech Center Hyatt Regency

DENVER (CBS4) – Hundreds of people had to be evacuated from the Hyatt Regency in the Denver Tech Center after a kitchen fire broke out Wednesday during lunch hour.

The fire was in the hood system above a kitchen on the second floor. Kitchen workers reported a small explosion and quick flash. Firefighters stopped the fire from doing much damage to the kitchen, but it caused damage in the ductwork above the kitchen where it vents.

The cause of the fire is unknown. Nobody was injured.

The midday host at KOSI radio, Shannon Stone, was on the air and noticed the smoke and took a picture.

Kevin Mussman of KOSI also sent CBS4 pictures of the smoke.
