Statewide CrossFit Community Raising Money For Injured Coach

DENVER (CBS4) – The statewide CrossFit community is rallying to help one of their own who was seriously injured.

Kevin Ogar, a coach and athlete at Unbroken CrossFit in Englewood, suffered a serious injury during a competition last Sunday.

His friends said the accident happened during a power lift while the coach was competing in southern California.

Ogar was left with a severed spine and no movement in his legs.

The CrossFit community is helping him pay his medical bills.

Friends said Ogar had his third surgery on Friday and remains in California.

Word spread quickly through the CrossFit community that Ogar didn't have health insurance and an online fund was set up.

More than $250,000 has been raised so far.

The money raised will help pay for those surgeries and help him get back home.

Front Range CrossFit held their own event on Saturday where hundreds of people showed up to dedicate their workout to Ogar.

"The workout itself is made up three of his favorite movements and its called Ogar," said owner of Front Range CrossFit Skip Miller.

"We put them together in one single workout to honor him and hopefully everyone around the globe will pick up on it and do it in honor of Kevin," said friedn Molly Mitchell

Miller said that the response has been unbelievable.

"You kind of only expect his close friends and people that know him personally to be as supportive as what the entire community has been so far. It's been amazing to see that amount of money being raised and so many different events being held all throughout this week and this weekend. It's been unbelievable,"

According to facebook gyms from Grand Junction to Germany all dedicated today's workout to Ogar.

"He means a lot to my whole family, he really is just the greatest guy you could ever know," said Mitchell.
