Bust In Southeast Colorado Turns Up 1,200 Marijuana Plants

HASWELL, Colo. (AP) - Authorities have arrested two people after a search of a home in the southeastern Colorado town of Haswell turned up about 1,200 marijuana plants.

Kiowa County Sheriff Forrest Frazee says deputies searched the home Saturday morning and found "a very sophisticated operation" with plants lined up in various stages of growth, the largest being about 3 feet tall. The suspects' names and a full list of charges have not been released.

Frazee says the two who were arrested aren't believed to be Colorado residents but had been living at the home for about two months.

Recreational use and sale of marijuana are legal in Colorado, but laws and regulations still apply to growing the drug. It also remains a federally controlled substance despite the change in state law.
