Man Accused In Deadly DUI Crash Takes Plea Deal
GRAND COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The man who struck and killed a father of eight while allegedly driving drunk on the Fourth of July has pleaded guilty.
Lucas Ackerman entered a guilty plea on Wednesday to vehicular homicide and three counts of vehicular assault as part of a deal with prosecutors.
Ackerman struck Gregory Westley and four of his family members as they were walking down Highway 34 near Grand Lake.
The district attorney said the case was unusual because an investigation concluded that the crash would have happened even if Ackerman had been sober.
Ackerman will be sentenced in February 2014 and faces a year behind bars.
