Denver Officer Honored For Helping Rescue Dogs

DENVER (CBS4) - The Denver Police Department honored one of its own on Wednesday for making sure four legged friends stay warm.

Detective Tammy Hurtado purchased 27 sweaters for dogs in September. She and two other officers found the dogs in an apartment on East Virginia Avenue.

Hurtado says she simply had to do something.

"When I was an assigned this case the dogs really touched my heart. When they were shaved, they were really freezing. So I figured I had to do something for them, and I went ahead and went down and bought some sweaters for them so they can actually have some warmth," Hurtado said.

Hurtado says she loves her job and she's happy to be able to help the animals.

The police department says all of the animals have new homes.
