Man In Critical Condition After Hit & Run In Thornton
THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4) - Thornton police are investigating a hit-and-run that sent one man to the hospital on Sunday.
The accident happened at a Home Depot on North Grant Street at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Police believe the 63-year-old victim, identified as Robert Banka, was getting inside his Ford Ranger pickup when it happened. Police believe a red Chevrolet Cavalier struck the passenger side of the pickup. The impact was so strong it knocked Banka to the ground, causing a severe head injury.
Banka is listed in critical condition.
The vehicle was last seen near East 104th Avenue and North Grant Street.
Witnesses say the suspect's red Chevrolet Cavalier had heavy front end damage and was leaking radiator fluid. It had black bumpers, a broken head light and the passenger side airbag had been deployed. Police were able to track the radiator leak from the vehicle to a nearby intersection, but it stopped at the intersection and they were unable to locate the car.
Investigators have asked for surveillance video from the Home Depot and other surrounding businesses in hopes of getting a license plate number.
