Royal Gorge Bridge And Park Hopes To Reopen In March

CANON CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - Officials announced on Wednesday that they plan to reopen Royal Gorge Bridge and Park on March 15 on a limited basis.

The park lost 48 of 52 buildings and there was minor damage to the bridge during the Royal Gorge Fire last June.

"People are very interested in seeing the bridge and the gorge, and what's happening up here. Hundreds have been turned away because it just wasn't safe for the general public to be up here during demolition," Vice-President and General Manager Mike Bandera said in a statement.

The reopening will start with guided tours only on weekends. Tours will be on a first come, first serve basis and cost $10.

The park is expected to open Phase I of the rebuild in August. It will include a new visitor center, aerial tram and several other attractions.
