Expensive Sculpture Stolen From Cherry Creek Gallery

DENVER (CBS4) - A gallery owner hopes an expensive sculpture will resurface after a thief walked into his Cherry Creek store and just walked off with the artwork.

Fascination Street Fine Art owner Aaron Lapedis says the sculpture, a white Parian sculpture by the artist Gaylord Ho, was worth $6,000.

The statue was displayed near the door's entrance.

Lapedis says the theft happened within seconds in broad daylight in front of several witnesses and a surveillance camera. He says a theft like that is highly unusual in Cherry Creek North.

"I'm mad, I'm frustrated that people think that they can just do this to shop owners who work so hard during holiday season. It's one more thing that I have to worry about," Lapedis said.

Lapedis says because the sculpture is so unique it won't be easy to sell. He says investigators are already looking for it online and in pawn shops.

The suspect left in a 1998 to 2000 emerald green Cadillac with two men.
