Police Search For Duo Targeting The Elderly

THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4) – Police are searching for a violent duo targeting senior citizens in the north Denver metro area.

Thornton police issued an arrest warrant for Damien Dahmer Tuesday for auto theft and crimes against the elderly. Authorities say Dahmer is responsible for at least three crimes, including home invasions.

Dahmer and a female associate are accused of stealing cars from three elderly women in the Redwood Estates off Pecos Street saying their car is broken and they need help.

"They ask to borrow a phone to get their car taken care of and then once in the home they distract the victim," said Thornton Police officer Matt Barnes.

The crimes have happened twice this month. In one instance the suspects tied the victim's hands together with a phone cord.

"They went in right behind her when she turned her back forced her on the couch and tied her hands, and then they ransacked her home and stole purses and other items," said Barnes

Marie Martinez says her car was stolen months ago. Those suspects were caught. She believes this is just a new round of crime in the area.

"I'm on the lookout for everything now," said Martinez.

She believes criminals are waiting around the corner and carefully picking the right time to strike the weak.

"I think there is someone that is patrolling the area looking for targets," said Martinez.

Police do not have a good description of the woman Dahmer is suspected to be working with.
