DENVER (CBS4) – It’s one of the classic traditions of the season – “The Nutcracker” — as performed by the Colorado Ballet.
CBS4 Critic at Large Greg Moody took a look at one of the high points of Mile High Holidays on CBS4 News.
“In a lot of ways it wouldn’t be the holidays without ‘The Nutcracker’ – large, lavish and beautifully performed by the Colorado Ballet,” Moody said.
For many, “The Nutcracker” is the way they are introduced to ballet.
“Clara, and Herr Drosselmeyer and the Mouse King, who I’ve always called ‘King Rat’ because I’ve never seen a mouse that big — and the fairies and the prince and the whole world of dancers — they just mean holiday fantasy to me. Always have,” Moody said.
The Colorado Ballet fills their annual production with color and costumes and marvelous backgrounds, and some of the most astounding dancing ever seen, anywhere.
“It’s the Colorado Ballet, but it is positively world class. And ‘The Nutcracker’ shows it off beautifully,” Moody said. “What better way to make the Mile High Holidays shine?”
“The Nutcracker” has 25 performances by the Colorado Ballet between Saturday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 28. Tickets start at about $25, but go up from there.
“It’s a delightful production and a perfect stop in your journey through the Mile High Holidays,” Moody said.
