Man Suspected Of Killing Baby Daughter In Westminster Dies

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado man suspected of fatally shooting his 19-month-old daughter and then wounding himself has died.

The coroner's office for Adams and Broomsfield counties said Monday that 22-year-old Merrick McKoy was pronounced dead. The cause of death was pending.

McKoy's daughter, Mia McKoy-Phanthavongsa, was killed Nov. 18 at a Westminster apartment.

Police say the girl's mother, Kim Phanthavongsa, called police after an altercation with McKoy. She told them McCoy was inside her apartment with her child and had a gun.

According to court records, McKoy was under a restraining order barring him from the mother's apartment.

Police said they believe McCoy posted a photo of himself and his daughter to Facebook shortly before the shootings. Police spokeswoman Cheri Spottke says the investigation is closed because McKoy is dead.
